"When should I get my car detailed?" is one of the most common questions we get from new Florida residents. The honest answer is more nuanced than people expect, because Florida doesn't really have a "right" or "wrong" season — every season is doing something different to your paint. Here's a month-by-month look at South Florida's climate, what each season does to your car, and the detailing cadence that actually keeps a vehicle looking good year-round.
The Quick Answer: Three Key Detail Windows
For most South Florida drivers, three deeper details per year hit the highest-leverage moments:
- March — coming out of "winter," before peak UV and pollen
- June — start of rainy/hurricane season, locks in protection ahead of the worst weather
- October — recovery detail after summer; reset for the dry season
In between those, plan on hand washes every 2 weeks and a quick Express Detail every 4–6 weeks to keep contaminants from bonding.
South Florida by the Season — What's Attacking Your Paint
Spring (March – May): Pollen, Rising UV
Spring is when South Florida's UV index starts climbing into "Very High" and "Extreme" territory. Pollen counts also spike — that yellow-green film you wipe off the hood every morning is mildly acidic and etches into clearcoat if left to bake. Spring is the right window for a clay bar + sealant service ahead of the summer onslaught. More on spring UV damage here.
Summer (June – September): UV Peak, Daily Rain, Hurricane Risk
Summer is the brutal one. UV indexes hit 10+ ("Extreme") most days. Afternoon thunderstorms drop hard water everywhere — and the sun bakes the spots in within an hour. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. Cars in summer need protection, not just cleaning. A sealant or ceramic coating going into June pays for itself by October. Detailed rainy-season guide here.
Fall (October – November): The Recovery Window
By October, your car has spent five months under extreme UV and pollen. Paint that's been neglected will show it — chalky on the hood and roof, water spots on every horizontal panel, dull color depth. A Premium or Elite detail in October undoes most of the summer damage and sets you up for the dry season.
"Winter" (December – February): The Easiest Season, Use It
South Florida winters are mild and dry. UV is lower, rain is rare, and pollen is calm. Vehicles need less maintenance during these months — but this is also the best time to schedule paint correction, ceramic coating, or any large service. Conditions are ideal and your detailer's schedule tends to be more flexible.
The Maintenance Cadence That Actually Works
This is the schedule we recommend to most of our South Florida customers. Adjust based on where you park, how often you drive, and how exposed your vehicle is to the coast or to tree cover.
Weekly
- Quick rinse after rain or sprinklers — this prevents water spots, takes 5 minutes with a hose
- Daily wipe-down of the interior dash and console with a microfiber if you have a daily driver
Every 2 Weeks
- Hand wash — our Basic Wash package or your own two-bucket method
Every 4–6 Weeks
- Express Detail — exterior hand wash with wax, full interior vacuum and wipe-down, wheels and tires dressed
- This is the cadence that prevents the slow accumulation of contaminants that lead to bigger problems
Every 3 Months (Quarterly)
- Premium Detail with clay bar + sealant — pulls bonded contaminants off the paint and re-establishes a UV-resistant layer
- This is the workhorse service for most South Florida vehicles
Once a Year (Or Every 2 Years)
- Elite Detail with two-step paint correction
- If you have a ceramic coating, this is when you'd inspect it and possibly top it up
- Best scheduled in fall or winter when conditions are ideal
Adjust for Where You Live and Park
Lean More Frequent If You:
- Live east of US-1 or A1A (salt air exposure)
- Park outside without cover
- Live under heavy tree canopy (sap, bird droppings)
- Have an HOA community with active sprinklers (mineral overspray)
- Drive 15,000+ miles per year
- Own a vehicle with soft single-stage or red/black paint
Lean Less Frequent If You:
- Garage-park exclusively
- Drive under 5,000 miles per year
- Live inland and west (less salt, less coastal moisture)
- Have a recent professional ceramic coating
One More Florida-Specific Tip: Time of Day Matters
If you're washing or detailing your car yourself, do it early morning or late afternoon. The midday Florida sun bakes water and product onto the paint before you can buff it off, leaving streaks and spots that take more effort to remove later. For our mobile services, we plan most jobs around shade — your garage, a covered driveway, the shaded side of your home — so we're not fighting heat-dried product.
The Bottom Line
There's no single "best month" to detail a car in Florida — there's a year-round rhythm that works. Hand washes every 2 weeks, Express details every 4–6 weeks, Premium with sealant every 3 months, and an Elite paint correction once a year. Hit those marks and your paint will look better at year five than most of your neighbors' look at year two.
